Crisix (Spain)
Crisix is arguably the most explosive and high-energy Thrash Metal band to emerge from Spain in the last two decades. Hailing from Igualada (Barcelona), they have earned a reputation across Europe for their “Ultra Thrash” style—a hyper-kinetic blend of old-school Bay Area speed, crossover humor, and modern technical precision.
Band Overview
- Origin: Igualada, Catalonia, Spain
- Formed: 2008 (originally as Crysys)
- Genre: Thrash Metal / Crossover Thrash
- Label: Listenable Records
- Lyrical Themes: Violence, humor, video games (Dragon Ball, etc.), and the mosh pit culture.
History & The “Sessions” Concept
By 2019, Crisix had already conquered major stages like Wacken Open Air and Hellfest. To celebrate their 10th anniversary and their deep-rooted love for the genre, they launched the “Sessions” series. The band’s goal was to pay homage to the specific eras and regions that shaped them, choosing to record these covers with their own signature “bone-crushing” production and Juli Bazooka’s versatile, unhinged vocal delivery.
Sessions #1 was recorded at Amplifier Studios in Barcelona and mixed/mastered by Gerard Rigau. It also served as the 500th physical release for their label, Listenable Records.
Featured Album: Sessions #1 – American Thrash
Released on November 8, 2019, this album is a high-speed journey through the American underground. Rather than covering the “Big Four,” Crisix intentionally chose cult classics and personal favorites that represent the “core” of the U.S. scene.
Tracklist & Original Artists:
- World in a World (Vio-Lence)
- Critical Mass (Nuclear Assault)
- The ‘Hood (Evildead)
- Chalice of Blood (Forbidden)
- Toxic Waltz (Exodus)
- Imitation of Life (Anthrax)
- C.O.T.L.O.D. (Testament)
- Infectious Hospital Waste (Demolition Hammer)
The album is praised for maintaining the spirit of the originals while updating them with the band’s down-tuned (Key of D) “crushing” guitar tone.
