Agalariept (Chile)

Agalariept is a ferocious Death/Thrash Metal band hailing from the coastal city of Caldera, Atacama Region, in Northern Chile. Active since 2009, they are key representatives of the aggressive “North Side” Chilean metal scene, known for their uncompromising speed and technical evolution.

Band Overview

  • Origin: Caldera, Chile
  • Formed: 2009
  • Genre: Technical Death/Thrash Metal
  • Label: Umbrium Records / Independent
  • Lyrical Themes: Hatred, violence, social decay, and anti-religious sentiment.

History & Evolution

The band’s name, Agalariept, is inspired by a figure in grimoires like the Grand Grimoire, reinforcing their dark, occult-adjacent aesthetic. For their first decade, the band operated in the underground with a raw, “old school” Death Metal sound, culminating in their 2016 debut full-length, Jugando a ser Dios.

However, the period between 2017 and 2022 marked a significant turning point. After internal lineup changes and the global pandemic, the band underwent a “sonic rebirth.” They moved away from their raw beginnings toward a much more polished, technical, and brutal style. This transition involved recording their second album twice—discarding the first sessions entirely to ensure the highest possible quality for their return.

Featured Album: Desde el Supremo Reino

Released on January 3, 2023, this album is considered the band’s definitive statement. It represents a massive leap in production value and musicianship, blending the rhythmic complexity of Technical Death Metal with the relentless energy of South American Thrash.

Tracklist:

  1. Inframundo (Intro)
  2. Cirugía Macabra
  3. Miasis
  4. Putrefacto
  5. Festín
  6. Lobotomía
  7. Inútil Fe
  8. Averno
  9. Desde El Supremo Reino

The album features session drums by the legendary Marcelo Power (of the Chilean band Homicide), whose performance is noted for its “pulverizing” blast beats and intricate time signatures.

Current Lineup (2023–2026)

While the band has seen several members come and go, the core vision is maintained by founding vocalist Jonathan Valenzuela:

  • Jonathan “Jona” Valenzuela: Vocals
  • Carlos Carrizo: Guitars (joined 2020)
  • Rodrigo Brizuela: Bass (joined 2023)
  • Alvaro Pacheco: Drums (Live)
  • Felipe Acevedo: Guitars (joined 2024)

Pro Tip: If you enjoy the technical ferocity of bands like Suffocation or the blackened intensity of Deicide, Desde el Supremo Reino is a essential listen for your collection.
